Pelvis
is too small to birth naturally?
I have far to many clients visit
me who have been told their pelvis isn't big enough
for their baby to be born naturally. It's as though
there's something strange happening to the women
of Auckland that some how nature forgot to make
them right. However, me telling you that your
pelvis is likely to be big enough to birth often
isn't enough to convince when the medical profession
are given so much trust. So... here's a wonderful
article from the International
Caesarean Awareness Network (ICAN) Please
do read this article carefully and discuss your
options with your care provider. And ALWAYS seek
a second opinion (asking more than one midwife
and obstetrician)
I was at a birth in 2010 where
the mum was told that her 7lb something baby would
be too big to fit through her pelvis. She was
about 5 foot and her partner was well built and
around 6 foot 2 inches. The midwife constantly
commented that they didn't think baby would be
born vaginally and recommended a caesarean. Fortunately
we supported her through labour and her little
girl was born vaginally weighing in just over
8lbs.
If you've been told your pelvis
is too small then we would love to see you at
the No
Need To Push! workshop where you will learn
about your pelvis, how much space you personally
have and the mechanics of your body to birth any
size baby. Read this article about the natural
birth of a 13lb baby! Who would think anyone
could do that?!
I met a woman in 2010 who didn't
realise she was in labour until her midwife appointment
where she was told she was fully dilated! 6 pushes
and baby was out, no stiches, no tearing... a
beautiful 11lb baby boy! Her pelvis was only a
little larger than mine and I'm only 5 foot 2
inches and 52kgs!
